The Full Size Batik Caftan is Available in two sizes: X-Large and 2X in Fuchsia, Black, White, Purple and Blue.
Turquoise has sold out. There is no more fabric. The print will not be made again in Turquoise. Please select an color or prints whenever possible.
Each Caftan is individually Hand Painted.
No two Caftans are hand painted identically.
Each Caftan is unique.
The Caftan is sewn under the arm openings, leaving approximately 6 inches of additional fabric on each side of the body.
The X-Large Caftan measures approximately 29 inches wide measuring under the arm opening to arm opening and 47 inches in length measuring from the top of the shoulders to the bottom of the hem. The 2X Caftan is approximately 33 inches wide measuring under the arm opening to arm opening and 47 inches in length measuring from top of the shoulders to bottom of the hem.
Batik is a traditional method of hand painting. The artist begins with a blank white sarong. Melted wax is poured into a stylus and is used to draw the outline of the design. This keeps the color inside the outline. This results in a white outline when the wax is removed. Once the wax is dry, the artist will fill in the design using little pieces of sponge wrapped around a stick. The color will be dyed into the fabric until it reaches the wax outlines. The color will bleed through the fabric so the design will be vibrant on both sides of the sarong. After the design is painted, the wax is removed resulting in a one of a kind, hand painted sarong.
